Learn about Financial Planning

How does Financial Planning work?

No crystal balls. No tarot cards. Not even tea leaves. Financial planning isn’t about predicting the future. It’s about making the future more predictable, in financial terms. So there’s no room for guesswork. Instead, we’ll build up a complete financial plan according to what you need. Now and in the future.

What happens at a financial review?

When you’re having a financial review, the adviser will ask you what’s important to you. Your family. Your lifestyle. Your ambitions. It’s the only way we can find out what your needs are and find straightforward solutions to meet them.

These are some of the areas we’ll cover.

  • Protecting your loved ones. Helping make sure you, your loved ones and your mortgage are financially protected in case you become ill, injured or even (pardon the expression) pop your clogs.
  • Planning your retirement. How to build up enough capital to provide you with a nice level of income when you retire.
  • Investing for the future. Using your investments to meet future objectives – and how much risk you’re prepared to take for potentially higher returns.
  • Reducing inheritance tax. Finding ways you can avoid your family having to pay up to 40% tax on your estate.
  • Releasing equity from your property. Advice on lifetime mortgages, which let you release capital or generate income from the equity in your home during retirement. Available in selected branches only.

          This is a lifetime mortgage.
To understand the features and risks, ask for a personalised illustration.

Remember, we’re not here to try and sell you a pension, investment or anything else. However, we will suggest ways to help you meet your objectives. For example, if investing for the future is important to you, our link to Legal & General means you have access to over 30 specially selected funds from across the market, as well as Legal & General’s own. But the one thing we promise is not to give you the hard sell.
