Buildings Insurance

Buildings insurance is a condition of most mortgages. But even if you don’t have a mortgage, it’s worth having buildings cover. Basically it protects you against the cost of rebuilding your home in the event of a disaster. It also covers other parts of your property, such as walls, gates, outbuildings and fences. It even covers items inside your home that are part of the structure, such as fitted kitchen units.

So as you can imagine, there’s every chance you’ll need buildings insurance at some point.Or a whole lot of luck.

What is covered as standard?

As you can imagine we can’t list everything that’s covered under buildings insurance so here are the main points:

  • Fire and smoke damage, lightning strike, explosion or earthquake.
  • Storm or flood damage.
  • Water freezing in any fixed domestic water or heating installation.
  • Theft, attempted theft, vandalism or malicious acts.
  • Collision by vehicles, animals or aircraft.
  • Riot, strike, civil commotion, labour or political disturbance.
